FEATURED
COAT. DRIES VAN NOTEN.

A four door cupboard, packed from top to bottom, tucked away somewhere in the basement. I like to refer to it as the “magical fashion transformation heaven”, since, well… This cupboard isn’t just any cupboard. Around the age six my mom first introduced me to the phenomenon of playing “fashion” dress up with her neglected/forgotten outfits she once wore at a random birthday party. Though I had no clue, which brands were hanging on my shoulders or in which designer heels I had covered myself up in this time, this exchange of forgotten clothes became a habit that never truly faded away. Some might question the luck of sharing your moms closet, I however consider myself to be a very blessed kid.

Vintage, borrowed, designer or just tailor-made, the magical fashion transformation heaven has it all, including some typical embarrassing yet funny mother-stories. Evidently some pieces have passed their modern existence and are still waiting for their trendy comeback. Having said that, you might understand the remarkable and outstanding value of every single piece having carefully cherished most of them for over 40 years.

So every September or February while flipping through the latest Vogue or Elle, my mom says those legendary magic words “oh my god, are those back in? I think I still have something like that downstairs!” And so it was, just two weeks ago, after reading the British Vogue that she called me up to announce she probably had a 15 year old Dries that could most definitely go for the new statement coat trend of this season.

Dear Dries, it’s time to play dress up.
