Since my move back home, a month has passed by and I have been trying to adjust gradually to the habitual happenings around here. Oh I got both feet back on the ground alright. Spotting acquaintances across the street was the first odd occurrence I stumbled upon and now I have come to the point where I see the upside of not knowing any of the people surrounding you. You see, when I partied hard this weekend I walked into some familiar faces, but as I got treated like a random stranger it reminded me of the anonymous nights I had back in Paris.
Okay okay, so honestly I'm no big hero in greetings neither. Maybe not expected, but I tend to be the shy one when it comes to strangers and acquaintances. Probably the reason why most of the strangers often assume I am arrogant and cold hearted. But as my real friends know, I am not that kind of girl at all and I truly wish my insecurities with strangers would reflect a more positive aspect of my personality.
Just like when a very sweet reader came up to me during Vogue Fashion Night Out last year and started a nice conversation which ended with: "so weird to hear your voice in real life". Which got me listening carefully to my own voice all week long.
These confrontations within social situations got a different substance in Paris, where nobody had shaped an opinion about me or even knew anything about my background or surroundings. There I could be me, without the definition of "me" by others. Nobody was forced to greet and every greeting was a treat.

Again: the life without expectations, is a life of triumph.

  1. I think a lot of introverts (and I am now assuming you are an introvert) often come off as cold hearted. But instead, we just really enjoy the comfort of our own peace. There's nothing wrong with being shy. Not everybody has to be jumpy and screamy. It would make the world a world without contrast ;) Love your style and writing. Will keep an eye on your blog!

  4. Beautiful writing. That's why I love your blog so much. I think being introvert is not a bad thing at all. I like the ones who only talk when they have something to say, instead of saying something just to be talking.

  7. Mooie geschreven.

Het lijkt me ook wel eens heel fijn om lekker anoniem te zijn en niemand bekend tegen te kunnen komen :p
