A DAY AT VERSAILLES

When I moved to Paris ten months ago, I finally saw the opportunity of a lifetime to discover every single corner and street of this magnificent city. Now, ten months later, I still have countless monuments, gardens and museums left to discover. An obvious visit was Versailles, which I had saved all these ten months especially for a summer day.

Having seen the movie 'Marie Antoinette' and attending some history classes during high school, I knew this visit would be impressive. Let's just say "impressive" does not quite cover it at all. Walking through the French garden of Louis XIV an overload of mazes, fountains, lakes, flowers and statues crossed my path. Every single one being just as striking as the other. Imagining that once these paths and alleys were filled with life, the life of the grand Marie Antoinette and Louis XIV gave the entire experience a surrealistic touch. 

After four hours we had only covered 1/4 of the garden and decided to give our feet a well-deserved rest. Next time I wish to see the interior of the chateau (=castle) and walk into the personal spaces of these historic figures. With her great taste of that time, I think Marie Antoinette and I would have been the best of friends if she would still be around ;-)

P.S. And yes that's right, I swapped my shoes! Versailles is quite a stroll...
